What I've been up to...

I’m baaaaaaack with a few photo’s of the past few weeks!

Peter’s sister Rosie turned 21 and we celebrated ‘Alice in Wonderland’ style with afternoon tea in the garden. The Mad Hatter even joined us.

My wonderful best friend Sophie got married a few weeks ago and I was one of four bridesmaid. It was such a beautiful day, it was hard to choose just a few pictures!

We celebrated our 3rd Wedding Anniversary with a meal out to San Carlo’s.

Our work’s summer do was at York Races this year. They always spoil us on our ‘do’s’ ! We had our own box with a fab view of the finishing line.

I had so many compliments on my dress too which is always a confidence booster! It is from Chi Chi – here!

A day out in Bakewell with Peter. We haven’t had a trip out in what seems like AGES!

Rosie graduated! She is now a fully fledged teacher and will be starting at her new Primary School in September. Go Rosebud! (Sporting my fav dress again!)

We are having a night away in Chester tonight.

Alnwick Castle

So I am now 24 years old! I have had a lovely birthday weekend with my family and have been truly spoilt.

Every year Peter surprises me with a day out for my birthday. He woke me up on Saturday morning and I rushed to get ready to find out where we were going.

Alnwick Castle!

I went to Northumberland for the weekend last month but the castle wasn't open so I was pretty gutted about it. Sneaky Peter remembered and brought me here for my Birthday day out.

We arrived at lunch time and had a quick stop for a bite to eat in the village. We went to The Olive Branch which I would highly recommend. The best ham and cheese I have EVER had and the staff are just wonderful.

After we refueled we went over to the Castle for a afternoon of pretending I was half princess and half student at Hogwarts.

The castle is really magnificent and there is so much to see. They have small rooms here and there for you to go in and read about the family who live there and have lived there.

It was slightly windy on top!

Some of the Harry Potter scenes were filmed at Alnwick Castle (the broomstick lesson in Philosophers Stone where Malfoy throws Neville’s Remembrall) which is one of the main (only) reasons I wanted to go so badly.

I didn't know though, that the Downton Abbey Christmas 2014 Special was filmed there too.

Obviously the icing on the cake for me right there and I was wondering when I could move in!

If you are ever in the area it is definitely worth a visit, even if you aren't pretending to be a Hogwarts student!

Bank Holiday in Whitby

How wonderful was the weather yesterday?!

We decided to take a trip over to the East Coast to our all time favourite sea side, Whitby, to make the most of it!

Of course the weather was completely different to what it was back home in Leeds! We never learn.

Still, it was a great excuse for a day out and to scoff some fish and chips!

Eerie Whitby Abbey in the fog.

I fell head over heels in love with this book shop and everything about it, especially the staircase!

Waiting for our fish and chips outside The Magpie.

Money on my mind

At the moment the main thing on my mind is houses. I love clicking on Right Move and browsing through all the houses. I often look at the mega bucks dream houses too, just to fantasise!

Our main savings goal at the moment is to buy our second home. We have been in our little semi for 4 years now and we are just about ready for something a little bigger. But last month I did splurge a little (did I really need another coat?!) and it has put things in perspective. I can’t have everything!

Apart from the obvious, check utility suppliers for the best deal, making over payments on your mortgage etc etc, here are a few of the things I do to cut back when you’re out and about on a daily basis.

1. Pre plan all your meals. We used to spend so much more when we didn't plan our lunch and dinner for the week and just grabbed stuff on the way home when we were starving! Set a budget as to what you want to spend each week on your food shopping. If that means no wine or Haribo’s this week then so be it!

2. Try and set yourself a challenge not to buy anything for yourself for a month. I am trying not to buy anything for the whole of March, it sounds easy but when you work in the city and have ASOS as your homepage it’s harder than you think to avoid them bargain dresses!

3. Leave your bank card at home. If you can’t buy it, you won’t buy it.

4. Have date night at home. Shove a pizza in the oven, get cuddled under some blankets and flick on Netflix or that old film at the back of the cupboard you both adore. It’s sometimes surprising what a good time you can have spending quality time together and not running around doing the washing.

5. Think about your money mantras. Do I really need it? Will I use it? Will it be cheaper anywhere else? I am the biggest culprit for impulse buying so I really need to do this more.

6. Get selling on eBay. I have so many clothes that I never wear (probably all the impulse buying). I bought a Barbour jacket before Christmas in the sale that was too big, but it was in the sale and I had a voucher so I had to have it! Wore it once. I ended up selling it for the same price I bought it for.

7. I am really lucky that my company pays for my gym membership but there are so many great work out videos that you can do at home just from YouTube. I swear by Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and for a few quid, you can't go wrong (if of course it reaches the DVD player and doesn't stay under the coffee table!)

8. And my favourite: The money jar. Every time you have coppers in your purse or loose change you won't need, put it in a jar. We did this when we first moved in together and last year we banked it in and over £100! Where else do the coppers go in your purse?

Happy saving!

What I am loving this week...

Pretty Little Liars
After I finished Gossip Girl I had a huge gap in my life! This has now been filled with the delights of Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer! Addicted already.

My New Specs
I finally got round to making an opticians appointment. I thought I would treat myself to some new frames but that proved more difficult than I thought especially seen as Specsavers do 2 for 1. I went for these Roxy ones and also some Karl Lagerfeld frames.

Soap and Glory Hand Food
My current hand cream crush is Hand Food. Classic!

H&M Gym Wear
Since I have upped my gym game I thought I would treat myself to some new gear. I am loving the range H&M have at the moment and so reasonably priced too.

Easter Goodies
Although I have given up chocolate for lent (crazy, I know), I love seeing all the Easter stuff come into the shops. Also means my birthday is getting closer!
