Afternoon tea at Wentbridge

I just wanted to share a few pictures from our afternoon tea at Wentbridge House.

We went last Sunday with both Peter's parents and my own.

We come for their Festive afternoon tea every year and it never disappoints.

I got married at Wentbridge House in July 2012 so it is just so lovely when we go back and re live the memories.

The lovely lovely Babs (who has worked there for over 30 years!) served us. She is possibly the best waitress I have come across and always makes you smile.

The food and service is just impeccable and will be somewhere I will always hold close to my heart.

My 2015

I have never really been into making New Years Resolutions. They are always the same. Eat more healthy, save money, read more books, go to the gym.

But this year it feels a bit different.

I want to make a conscious effort to better myself. To be an independent, confident woman.

I know you don't need a new year to do this, but I think the break over Christmas and a clean slate will boost my confidence and get me ready for a new challenge.

Here are a few things I will achieve in 2015:

  • Learn something new and out of my comfort zone
  • Drive somewhere I haven't been to before (that isn't in Leeds!)
  • Do some DIY on my own
  • Do more volunteering and charity work
  • Be more assertive in my work
  • Be grateful for all that I have
  • Love myself and all that I am

Leeds Christkindlmarkt

Every year, the Chriskindlmarkt comes to Millennium Square in Leeds City Centre.

We pull on our hats and gloves and get ready for a day of mulled wine, pretzels and frankfurters.

We have carved a tradition in recent years that both Peter's parents and my own all go together and have good knee's up. Which we did! But we went on a Saturday afternoon and although we had a very merry time, it was just a bit too busy to take it all in and have a nosy at all the bits and pieces on the stalls. So last Monday Peter and I took the day off and decided to make good use of it and have a re-visit!

The stalls are all different and have lots of handmade gifts and decorations on show.

This is a honey stall, I never knew they were honey candles!

Row and rows of Christmas ornaments and baubles.

Peter lets me choose a bauble from this stall each year. We are collecting quite nice collection on the tree now.

I don't know why, but I am really don't want to buy a box of generic decorations from a high street shop. Our Christmas tree does look a tad on the bald side but it will soon be full of lots of different decorations and memories too!

How cute are these carousels?! I think they are so cute and would look lovely on mantel piece.

After all the meandering we were definitely ready for a bite to eat. Peter made a bee line for the sausages whereas I, always the sweet tooth, was eyeing up the crepes and chocolate strawberries!

I have never noticed this stall in previous years but I was in total awe at all the different flavour almonds! I definitely recommend the Baileys flavour!

They have a stall just for chocolate covered marshmallows.

After another nosy round I was ready to warm up in one of the tents with a Baileys hot chocolate and look at all the little treats I had bought.

It was a day off well spent!

My Christmas Wish List

I always make my Christmas list months in advance. Every time I see a little something that I wouldn't necessarily buy myself, I open a word document and hyperlink my wishes for future reference.

Here are a few bits I have had my eye on for a while.

I absolutely love The Hunger Games but shamefully I have never read the books! So I have popped them on my wish list in the hope Santa delivers them and I have a good few books to read over the festive period.

I went into Molton Brown in town the other week and got a tester of the Coco and Sandalwood shower wash. It was SO good. I went back and had a good look at the rest of the range and the hand cream is to die for. All the Molton Brown hand creams make your hands instantly soft and dry in no time. I would love this one!

I had an unfortunate mishap with my ear rings, in that I lost one down the sink! I came across these cute wishbones on Orelia and fell in love.

I have heard so much hype about these EOS Lip Balms. The Strawberry Sorbet sounds divine.

I do hope Peter has noticed my 201 hints I have been subtly dropping!

I have pretty much got all my Christmas gifts bought and wrapped now, so I can be fully in festive mode!

What is on your wish list?

Easy Chocolate Truffles

I love whipping these little truffles up when I know I will be having visitors. It's just a bit different to the usual Victoria Sponge (and no body knows how easy they are to make!) They are also great as gifts especially around Christmas time.

What you will need:
100g dark chocolate
50g unsalted butter
1 tsp of Vanilla Extract
1 tbsp of golden syrup.
200g of icing sugar
Chocolate sugar strands

Place 100g of dark chocolate and 50g of unsalted butter into a bowl and melt in the microwave  for 1-2 minutes (or over a pan of simmering water)

Stir in 1 tsp of Vanilla Extract and 1 tbsp of golden syrup.

Gradually beat in 200g of icing sugar until a stiff paste is formed.

Form into 16 balls and roll in chocolate sugar strands.

Leave to set (and obviously lick the mixing bowl clean!)

Store in an airtight container for 2 weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Although I am from England and don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I thought it would be a brilliant opportunity to share the things I am thankful and grateful for.

I am trying to make more time to think about these things and jot them down in my diary so I can I always look back at them and smile.

A loving, kind and supportive husband who is my rock in everything I do

A job that I enjoy and my brilliant colleagues.

My health.

My Bailey Boo and all his cheeky ways.

All the trips away and adventures we go on.

My very own little abode that I can fill with all my treasures.

And lastly my amazing family, I wouldn't be the person I am today without them and I cannot be more thankful for that.

Have a brilliant weekend!

Photos that make me smile

I have seen a lot of people on Facebook sharing 5 photo's that make them smile, so I thought I would do a little post with some pictures that never fail to make me smile.

This one is of me and the girls on Hayley's 18th birthday. I can't believe that's nearly 6 years ago now! We have been friends since nursery school and are still good friends now!

This is actually a print screen of one of them Christmas videos you can make. My mum made it last Christmas, it was hilarious! It always makes me laugh.

Of course Bailey Boo is on here! Look how chilled he looks!

This is when we first got Bailey and he used to sit on the sofa with us. He is only about 15 weeks old on this photo.

One of my favourite photographs from the wedding. I always forget how long my train was until I see photo's like this.

I love this photo of me and my mum from my wedding morning. We both look really happy.

This is from my Mum in laws wedding last Christmas. I was bridesmaid with my sister in law Rosie. It was my first time being a bridesmaid so I was so excited.

My Mum and Dad on their wedding day. They celebrated their 25th Anniversary this year

And this is from our last holiday to Thailand at the start of this year. I have this picture on my bedside table too to remind me of what a lovely lovely time we had. It was probably the best trip we have had.

I love looking back at old photographs and remembering all the good times.

Has anyone else done a similar post? I would love to read it.

My Brother Steven

For those of you who don't know, I have one brother.

He's called Steven and he is 2 years younger than me and 2 feet taller!

He is probably the kindest person I know and is always there whenever I need him (except for when I got into a scrap at high school and a Mars bar was the priority! Ha!)

I wanted to write a little post to let him know I am very proud of him and everything that he does.

I feel very lucky to have a brother who I can also call my friend.

My brother Steven
Is a wonderful guy
He’s funny and smart
I cannot deny
